Whimsical Summer Dresses | Weddings, Festivals, Days |
The 21st June marks the longest day of summer – this is one of my favourite times of the year! I love the whimsical long summer days, balmy evenings, the festivals, weddings and summer events that take place.
So, seeing as the UK have been enjoying a heatwave recently – I thought this would be the perfect excuse to discuss summer dresses.
These are some of my favourites, all are under £70 and are versatile in terms of being wearable day/evening.
…Oh, and I have one trouser solution for those of you who prefer summer inspiration for trousers/jeans as opposed to dresses!
I saw this dress on Shein and immediately fell in love with the very ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ Italian styling and colours. The blue with the white makes me think of the Mediterranean Sea & Portofino in the sun.
The dress is double-lined and is cut on an A-Line, which I think is a very flattering on all body shapes.
Paired with silver Chanel ballet flats and blue Miss Dior Promenade clutch.
I was looking for a white, loose dress for hot summer days and decided this was the one. It features fluted off-shoulder sleeves and over the shoulder straps.
White can be a tricky colour in terms of long-term maintenance. It can discolour and stain through wear and washing over time, so I didn’t want to spend lots of money on something that will probably look rather worn at the end of this summer!
This is a great affordable option, that would look perfect at a festival, or simply as a sun dress to be worn in the day. Dress it up with these heeled pink sandals and yellow Chanel Coco Handle bag for a relaxed yet glamorous evening look.
The ultimate summer dress to wear to events – this pink satin floaty dress is princess-like and leaves you feeling like you’ve stepped-out of a Disney movie!
The satin is heavy (not that static-inducing synthetic type you can get), double lined with a fitted bust and racer back straps. This dress would be ideal for cocktails or prom.
Worn here with Valentino Rockstud pumps and a silver Diorama clutch bag.
I love the vibrant colours of this beautiful dress. The fabric is lightweight but quite stiff, so if (like me) one of the things you dread most is the concern of the wind catching your skirt – you’ll have no such problem with this!
Fitted across the bust with an A-Line skirt, this cut is incredibly flattering on pear shapes, hourglass or apples.
The most expensive off all options is this soft-grey embroidered dress from River Island. The colour is so subtle and pretty, chiffon arms mean that you can cover your arms without getting too hot.
Styles here with pink heeled sandals and blue Miss Dior Promenade bag. This dress has ‘wedding guest’ written all over it!
For those of you who pretty much live in your skinny jeans, but sweat at the very sight of them in summer – here is a great solution…
These jeans from J Brand are (technically speaking) a ‘straight leg’, but they are on the cusp of being a Boyfriend Jean.
Boyfriend jeans in a lightweight fabric are probably the best go-to for summer, but I personally find them to be rather unflattering on me.
These are a great middle ground – loosely fitted on the leg but not baggy, lightweight denim and cropped at the ankle.
Worn here with a simple white peplum top which adds an elegance to otherwise casual / edgy jeans. Paired with a coral coloured Chanel bag and pale pink heeled sandals
What are your favourite styles and brands to wear during summer?
Are you someone who doesn't like wearing skirts/dresses/shorts in the summer - if so, what do you like wearing?

Sophie Shohet
Hey Lilia! I purchased it about 4 years ago from a little stall selling jewellery at London Fashion Weekend. The company has since gone bust, which is really annoying as their stuff was so pretty. I can't even suggest similar right now, but when i find it I shall share :) xx
