A Modern Day Valentine's | Ideas & Inspiration |
I once read that Valentine's Day was created some decades ago, to fill the dreary winter gap that falls between Christmas & Easter.
It is certainly true (for me at least!) that having a memorable date for celebration in the diary can lift the spirits and give you something to look forward to. So who knows, maybe that little myth is true!
I have some friends for whom Valentine's Day is abhorred, whilst for others it’s romanticized and cherished. Personally, it’s an anniversary date for myself and my husband – not something that was planned I should say!
Whether you love or hate Valentine's Day, are single or in a relationship – I think it’s a good opportunity to take a moment to value the relationships around us, and to show ourselves some kindness, peace, time and respect.
"Galentines...the practice of getting your girlfriend’s over on Valentine's! Facemasks, films, food and chat – all sound like true bliss!"
So here are some ideas for things to do on the day, as well as Valentine’s-inspired treats for yourself perhaps....
Anxiety, depression & insomnia are all common symptoms that can appear out of nowhere, but often have roots in our lifestyle choices or life experiences. Mindfulness definitely helps, but it’s something that gets easier and more effective the more you do it! It’s effectively the practice of focusing on ‘now’, instead of the future or the past. There is a really great book I can recommend for this, or if you wish to have something to listen to, positive affirmations on YouTube are what do it for me.
